The 3 Steps to Starting Your Business in 2025

We’ve all been there. You have an idea for a product, created something unique, or even excel in a specific skill… and you think to yourself. I should make a business from this! You play around with the idea for a bit but as you start to hit the numerous hurdles that come between you and selling your product or service, you slowly run out of steam. You go back to working for someone else and you are no closer to the financial freedom we all want.

These hurdles that get in our way are not new. These are the same hoops that existing businesses have had to jump through to get where they are. But for most of those businesses they have a team to help conquer each step. For you, you may be an amazing tradie or have a product that can disrupt and industry… but you may not know how to set up a online marketing campaigns, create sales funnels to help the client buying journey, lock in suppliers, hire team members, deal with accounting, or know how to create processes which facilitate scaling. Sadly, I see to many people wasting away good ideas at markets or being under utilized by larger companies.

That is okay!

The solution is easier than you expect. We have boiled it down into three simple steps: 1: Start! Make a prototype, get what you need to be successful at your trade. 2: Become the best. This is simply through constant learning and practice. There is no shortcut for step 2. 3: Find a business partner! Do what you do best and find someone to help you with the business side of your business.

Step 1. Get Started

The hardest part for anything is getting started. A business is no different. Sit down and work out what you need to get your prototype built. Get your van kitted out so you can do trade work on your own. It doesn’t have to be everything at once, but start dedicating time and resources to moving forward.

Action Points:

  • BUY IN! Only you can do this step.
  • Make a list of what you need to be the best at what you want to do.
  • This can be tools, software, end client experience, etc
  • Invest in the first item from the list above. Create a plan to invest in the rest (be specific)

Step 2. Become the BEST

So, we have the ball rolling on our business. Now what? It doesn’t matter if you are a creative, an inventor, an electrician, plumber, coder, engineer…. the answer is always the same. Become the BEST at your niche. How do you do that? Practice and Curiosity! No one is going to pay you for your initial R&D or practicing how to strip cables, or making your prototype. However, that is OKAY! It is what makes you the best. The time you put into your craft is what sets you apart. On top of that, never stop learning. We have more information available to us now with YouTube, Socials, and online books that in the entire history of mankind. Use it!

  • Practice and Build. You won’t be the best at something if you never actually do it.
  • Learn. Consume as much as you can about your niche. Become the expert.
  • Create Content! This is a more modern item, but it is very important. Simple how to videos or showing off a product in use goes a long way to establish you as an expert.

Step 3. Find A Business Partner

This is where you take your idea or skill from “something cool” to a business that will allow you to buy back your time. Your value comes in your expertise and it is okay if you don’t know how to do everything else. What makes a good entrepreneur is not sole dependence, but rather creation and collaboration. A good business partner will take all of the backend items off your plate and allow you to focus on the part of the business you love. The core product or trade.
